Sunday School

Sunday School is conducted every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. for children from pre-school through junior high. All the students first gather together in the large Sunday School room for singing of choruses. After singing, we divide into classes according to age. Each teacher seeks to instruct the children in an understanding of God’s Word by reading from the Bible and illustrating the scriptures using short videos or flannelgraph. Verse memory and workbook completion are also part of the classwork.

In Sunday School we seek to teach the fundamentals of the Christian faith and to develop basic biblical literacy in the children. We especially strive to explain salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. At special seasons, such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, the children often sing for the whole congregation. Most years we also present a Sunday School Christmas play.

Craft Club

Craft Club is a weekly Bible teaching and craft building activity for boys and girls in grades 1 through 7. Every Friday from October through April children gather from 6:30 until 8:30 for fun, creative activities, and to learn about our wonderful Savior. We begin each week by singing lively children’s choruses. Depending on which week of the month it is, the children then have a time of either: building crafts (twice a month), or team game quiz (once a month), or make-your-own-pizza (also once a month).

Every week we also view an animated children’s Bible story video. These videos portray a person or event in the Bible, and they do so in a fun format to keep the children’s interest. We follow the video with a question and answer time, and then the children are taught the weekly Bible memory verse. We end the year of craft club with our annual spring family picnic.

Vacation Bible School

VBS stands for VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, a 5 day program conducted every summer at the chapel for grade school children. Children come each evening for about 2 ½ hours of creative and fun activities, singing, food, and Bible lessons. Each night starts with singing and a dynamic children’s Bible lesson. Following the lesson, the children have a light meal and then work on an interesting craft, 3 of the 5 nights. The other 2 nights, we have an indoor game quiz one evening and an outdoor Olympic style sport challenge the second evening.

At the start of the week, each child is assigned a miniature racecar which is placed on an 8-foot racetrack. Each evening as the children arrive, they receive points for reciting their memory verse and for their completed daily Bible course lesson. The racecars advance around the racetrack each day in accordance with how many points each child earned that day for completing the home assignments. At the end of the week, we have a closing program during which the children receive prizes for the points earned. The children’s parents also attend the program on the final (Friday) evening.

Bethany Chapel Youth

BCY stands for Bethany Chapel Youth. Participants range in age from grade 8 through their late 20s. The group meets every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m. for a time of games, pizza, missionary story, prayer, and in-depth Bible study led by a capable youth worker/Bible teacher.

During the warmer months, April through October, we begin the evening with a game of ultimate frisbee at a nearby park. In the colder months we play a variety of indoor games, such as round-robin ping pong. Of course, the primary emphasis of the evening is the Bible study.

Once or twice a year we conduct a special youth night, called B.A.C.O.N. Night. B.A.C.O.N. stands for Battle and Conquer Opposition Now. During these evenings an interesting speaker addresses pertinent spiritual topics to challenge the youth; they also share a fun full meal and sing, accompanied by our talented instrumentalists.

Ladies Bible Study Group

Ladies Bible study group meets each Friday during the time children are attending Craft Club, Fridays from 6:30 – 8:30. A small group of ladies meet to pray for one another and study together from God’s Word. They also have refreshments and encourage one another as they discuss the challenges of life. Spanish language study materials are available for ladies who are better served by studying in Spanish.
